Florian Munteanu is a Romanian non-professional boxer who unexpectedly became a movie star by starring in the sequel to Creed. The impressive shape and stature of the athlete has struck the imagination of movie makers, and now, in addition to an army of female fans, the impressive bodybuilder has tempting offers from Hollywood. But especially significant in the biography of the bodybuilder was the work on the Marvel blockbuster “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”.

Childhood and youth

The story of the future fitness and movie star began in the Bavarian town of Würzburg on October 13, 1990. Florian Munteanu spent his childhood in the city of Bohene, where he received his secondary education.

Actor by nationality – Romanian, his family fled from the communist regime back in 1985. Dorin’s father is a dermatologist by profession, and Floric’s mother works in the legal field.

The parents of the boy instilled in their son a love for sports, and no wonder, because Florian’s father – a former boxer. It was thanks to hard workouts, started in childhood, the athlete got in such good shape and even in his youth became a star of fitness and social networks, earning the nickname Big Nasty.

Later the guy moved to Munich, where he enrolled at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. In 2014, Munteanu defended his thesis on “The Structure and Organization of Boxing in Germany” and became a Bachelor of Arts in Sports, Media and Event Management.

Sports and Movies

Florian was a brand ambassador for SuperKombat, a fighting organization based in Bucharest, until his self-promotion on social media led to the spectacular athlete getting noticed by movie makers. In 2016, Munteanu was invited to play a role in the German short drama Bogart.

Two years later, a film starring the bodybuilder, “Creed 2,” was released. In it Florian got the role of the son of Russian boxer Ivan Drago, who in the 4th part of the drama was played by Dolph Lundgren. The film was a sequel to the Rocky Balboa saga, and is about the confrontation between Victor Drago and Rocky’s protégé Adonis Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan.

The actor, a big European heavyweight, was being sought for months to play Creed’s opponent, until Sylvester Stallone turned his attention to the German athlete. After an audition with the fitness star via Skype, Sly was finally convinced that Florian was the ideal candidate, and did everything to get Munteanu into the cast.
Munteanu did not disappoint, but gave his all for the movie: the Romanian had to learn Russian and lose 25 pounds, and for more naturalness, Florian in his first fight really put Michael B. Jordan in the ring with a left hook.

In an interview, the actor admitted that he and his father are big fans of the franchise, and the movie “Rocky” motivated and inspired the athlete to start training hard. About his character, Florian said that he thought Victor was too emotional, and it was because of the passions raging in him that the fighter was unable to focus on the fight.

As for his fighting career, after Stallone invited the fitness model to “Creed 2,” the media called Munteanu a “professional heavyweight boxer,” but users could not find any records or photos of fights, which sparked rumors on boxing forums that Florian’s career is nothing more than a fake, and the bodybuilder himself was called a “fraud.”

But the real dream role came to the Romanian with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in which Munteanu embodied the image of the Razor Fist, a hero with the superpower to turn his hands into a pair of blades. The fierce mercenary, along with the Merchant of Death, confronts the protagonist of the film, the Chinese superhero Shang-Chi.

It was also announced another film with the actor under the working title Borderlands. The plot of the picture is built around the colonization of distant planets, the director’s chair took Eli Roth, and the main roles in the film will perform Cate Blanchett, Hayley Bennett and Jack Black. Exit sci-fi action movie scheduled for 2022.
