Even before Phil Mickelson started school, he learned to play golf from his father. Although he is right-handed, he got used to playing like a lefty because he copied his left-handed father. After graduating from high school in 1988, Mickelson attended Arizona State University on a golf scholarship. Between 1990 and 1992, he won three consecutive Haskins Awards as the top collegiate golfer in the United States. He also still holds the record for most wins in the tournament with the three NCAA Golf Championships he won in 1989, 1990 and 1992.
