The creative biography of Simu Liu counts dozens of roles in movies and TV series, but the actor came to fame after shooting in the Marvel Studios film “Shan-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. He became the first Asian in history whose character led the superhero franchise.
|Net Worth||19 000 000 $|

Childhood and Youth
Simu was born on April 19, 1989, in Harbin, China, where he lived with his grandparents until he was 5 years old. His grandmother was a pediatrician who ran away from home at a young age to go to medical school and treat people. Grandpa taught his grandson to play chess and table tennis and took him on endless walks around town.
His parents were engineers designing aerospace systems and were invited to Canada, where their duty station was Queen’s University in Kingston.
When it was time for Liu to go to school, he moved to join them in Ontario. That’s where Simu’s childhood and adolescent years were spent, and he attended the University of Toronto in high school.
On the acting career the guy at first did not think about. After graduating from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Liu took a job in an accounting office, but did not last a year there. That’s when the thought of trying his hand at filmmaking first came to him.
Since childhood Simu adored action movies with Jett Lee and Jackie Chan, feeling proud of the fact that they “kicked everyone’s ass. Underneath it all, he grieved that Asians in movies traditionally occupy a couple of assigned niches: at best they are martial arts experts, at worst they are ridiculous petty employees who cause laughter. As a progressive Western male of Chinese descent, Liu dreamed of breaking these stereotypes.
Simu Liu Career
Liu began his acting career in 2012 when he played a Hong Kong police constable in Nikita, a remake of the cult Canadian series about a beautiful super spy. Since then, he has managed to star in dozens of films, with a number of them serving as writer and producer.
In 2015, Simu showed off his stuntman skills in the TV series Heroes: Rebirth, and also took on the Canadian multi-episode film Blood and Water, which featured a predominantly Asian cast. This detective drama about a cancer-stricken police officer who solves intricate murders ran for three seasons and earned Liu nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards and ACTRA.
In 2017, the actor began starring in the comedy series Kim’s Convenience, about a Korean family who moved permanently to Canada. This uncomplicated project about convenience store owners and their children won over viewers, earning the project’s cast an ACTRA Award.
In addition, Liu has appeared in episodes of the Canadian series, Black Matter, Slasher and others. Now his filmography increasingly began to appear in American projects.
In 2021, the film ” Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” premiered, where Simu got the main role. The actor still remembers what a shock he was in when the producers of Marvel Studios called him and invited him to the shooting.
His character Shang-Chi lives in San Francisco, where he tries to lead an inconspicuous life and get rid of memories of the past, because since childhood his father taught him martial arts, in order to turn him into a professional killer.
The filmmakers invited Liu for the lead role because he combined martial arts skills with a good acting school, being able to convey a wide emotional spectrum. And that was important because Marvel had the ambitious task of bringing an Asian man to the forefront of superhero cinema, and to do so with dignity.
Simu Liu girlfriend
The growing popularity of the actor increased interest in his personal life. However, Liu is in no hurry to show his romantic relationship in photos on Instagram, although there are rumors that they exist.
There is talk of an affair between Simu and Chinese actress Tina Jung, with whom he has repeatedly crossed paths on the set. They have even released a joint short film “Meeting Mother”, where both acted as screenwriters and producers. However, the actors did not provide official confirmation of this relationship.
On his Instagram page, Liu looks like an enviable bachelor who has found the perfect companion — a dog named Chopa, brought back from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. He calls her a princess, sweet and sensitive, catching his moods and the slightest cues.
